XTRAC for Psoriasis and Vitiligo
XTRAC for Psoriasis and Vitiligo
XTRAC is a Laser device FDA cleared for the treatment of Psoriasis and Vitiligo. Hundreds of thousands of patients have had XTRAC treatment for their psoriasis or vitiligo since its introduction in 2000. Although there is no known cure for psoriasis, or Vitiligo, XTRAC laser offers new hope for patients suffering from these conditions. This safe and effective therapy is offered at our affiliated Dermatology Center in Phoenix, Alliance Dermatology & Mohs Center. Ask our providers if this treatment is right for you.
Almost all patients with psoriasis or vitiligo are candidates for XTRAC Laser Therapy. If you have psoriasis and you are unhappy with your current method of treatment, you should consider XTRAC Laser therapy. You may have tried topical medications with disappointing results or you might have resistant areas that simply do not seem to clear up. You’ll probably get relief much faster with XTRAC.
Although Vitiligo can be a challenging condition to treat, XTRAC laser can often show good results.
Using a carefully focused beam of laser light delivered through a sophisticated liquid light guide delivery system, the XTRAC system is designed to clear unsightly psoriatic skin plaques quickly and effectively. Because it concentrates light on active lesions, XTRAC allows your health care technician to deliver the high therapeutic doses necessary for rapid clearing without risk to healthy skin.
Your treatment will be based upon a long-standing clinical protocol guide which depends upon skin type, plaque location, and plaque thickness. Then the XTRAC hand-piece is moved over the affected area, applying laser light at your determined dose. Depending on the area to be treated the procedure time typically only takes a few minutes.
Vitiligo treatment will take more time to show signs of improvement. Ask one of our doctors if XTRAC is a good option for you.
Of course, results will vary. However, most patients begin to notice some improvement in their psoriasis within 3 or 4 treatments. Individuals with mild to moderate psoriasis can often obtain clearance generally in about 12 brief treatment sessions, however many factors affect clearance rates, such as plaque location, thickness, stability of overall psoriasis condition, frequency of treatments, etc.
Most patients feel no pain or discomfort during the short XTRAC treatment sessions. Sometimes after some treatment sessions, you may experience a sun burn type response. While uncomfortable, this is often a good indicator that a therapeutic dose of laser energy was delivered. No anesthesia is necessary.
Not only is the XTRAC treatment free of pain, it has few of the drawbacks often associated with other psoriasis treatments, such as premature skin aging, skin thinning, resistance to medication, or potentially harmful internal systemic effects. And the XTRAC system can be used successfully on hard-to-treat areas of the body such as elbows, knees, and scalp.
Each case is unique, but psoriasis sufferers who have experienced XTRAC treatment have found that relief can last for extended periods of time. Remissions are expected to last at least as long as with conventional phototherapy, which is typically several months, but you will probably need fewer treatments per year to remain free of symptoms.
Almost ALL major insurance companies provide coverage for XTRAC laser treatments, especially since:
- XTRAC excimer laser has been in use since 2000 and is FDA approved.
- Laser specific CPT codes were published by the AMA in 2003, (96920, 96921, 96922; ©American Medical Association)
- Numerous clinical studies have been published in peer-reviewed medical journals proving the effectiveness and safety of XTRAC
- XTRAC is regarded as a “Standard of Care” by the American Academy of Dermatology as published in the AAD’s Psoriasis Treatment Guidelines for Healthcare Professionals.
